Planning permission granted for new Pelham Architects designed sheltered accommodation

Pelham Architects are delighted to announce that their plans for Ambion Court in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, have been approved by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.

Ambion Court is a sheltered accommodation scheme for older people (over 60s). Under the plans, the existing outdated scheme will be demolished and replaced with a much more modern facility.

The new scheme will consist of three one-bedroom bungalows and 24 one-bedroom sheltered housing flats, each with a balcony or patio. In addition there will also be a communal lounge, kitchen, dining area, library, hair salon, laundry, offices and storage.

In the brief the client, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, asked for a building designed to a much higher specification with better facilities for the residents and most importantly larger flats with dedicated level access shower facilities for each resident (previously there were shared bathrooms). They were also keen to make the scheme as green as possible with extensive tree and landscape planting, energy saving measures such as photo voltaic panels on the roof, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and electric heating.

Pelham Architects’ Senior Architect Simon Henderson said: “I am pleased to hear that planning permission has been granted for the new Ambion Court. We have put a lot of time into designing a scheme that will provide a much better quality of life for the residents living there, whilst being as environmentally friendly as possible.”

Planning permission granted this week is ‘delegated to officers’, which means that the planning officers will release the permission on signing of a section 106 agreement and resolving bat mitigation issues.
Construction is expected to start on site in February 2020.
